For P-day we went to the traditional annual and very unique Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling at Brockworth, not too far from us. We dropped the elders off in the thick of it, and Gene and I went to the quieter Roman Villa nearby, then we all stopped at the Prinknash Abbey Bird and Deer Park on the way home. Nice combination!

So the gist of this is that people flock here from all over to watch “contestants” line up at the top of the very steep Cooper’s Hill. A round cheese roll (now a heavy styrofoam substitute) is dropped and chased down the hill-see first photo. The winner is the one who grabs it. The Gloucestershire Rugby Team is at the foot of the hill to catch the out-of-control runners. Paramedics are on hand for the many twisted ankles and a broken leg or two.
